Mainstay of the diet, protein should ideally be present at the 3 daily meals. Pregnant women and lactating women, these needs are increased, as in the context of significant physical activity.

Protein deficiency leads a cast of muscle mass, decreased resistance to infections, fatigue ...

Beware of excess

In some diseases, especially in patients with renal insufficiency, it is important to control the supply of protein. The kidney plays an important role in the elimination of amino acids ... Also, if renal function fails, nitrogenous substances may accumulate in the body, that may be harmful.

Proteins and diet

The high-protein diets are sometimes offered by nutritionists (often at the request of people). These plans must be conducted over a short period (7-15 days). They can be made by focusing meals rich in protein, preferably with protein from lean meats (with little body fat: poultry, fish ...). Otherwise, the nutritionist can advise alternative meals rich in proteins that are purchased in pharmacies.

In addition to this plan, it is advisable to eat a lot of vegetables. This diet is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or renal insufficiency.
